Happy Small Business Week!

Do you ever have those weeks where nothing seems to be going the way you would like? This has been one of those weeks. I feel like I am going around a Monopoly board, I just cannot get out of jail. For all of you who are in business for yourself I know you understand what I am talking about.

Social media, how important is it for your business? Twitter? I really don’t think that there is anything special about my day that I could share. Except for chewing the erasers off every pencil in my office out of pure frustration. I would love to hear your thoughts on tweeting. Maybe I just haven’t gotten up to speed on it. My tweet for the day would be up to my ears in pillows. I can’t even imagine anyone being interested in that.

I just heard yesterday that it is Small Business Week. What exactly does that mean? Is there a celebration going on somewhere that I am not aware of? Does it mean this week has been set aside for banks to shell out small business loans? If anyone knows the importance of Small Business Week, I would love to know.
Please share your thought on being a small business and how you’re celebrating Small Business Week.

To all of you who own your own business, I wish you a very happy Small Business Week!

Oh Michelle,
Poor you. I know only too well what it's like, running your own business. My husband has had his own for 30 years and chewing the ends of pencils and pulling your hair out is just part of a working day for him !!!! I think that you just have to ride the storm.
Sorry that I haven't been around for a while. I has MASSIVE computer and Blogging problems but, I hope that all's well now.
I don't Twitter.....I'm not even on Facebook. Everyday life and bloggung is enough for me so, I can't help you there.
All the best with everything and I know that it will all calm down soon.
Take care Michelle. XXXX

I am trying to "grow my blog" so I opened a FB page for it and a Twitter account as well. To be honest, I think there are two key factors: it depends on how much time you are willing to put into it and if you want to reach a small, but stil significant, following of people. Twitter is tricky; it's like learning another language! You have to put in the time to understand that launguage and be able to "tweet" often on your own account and also to other "tweeps" (I don't even know if that's a word) so you stay connected with everyone and gain more followers. You also have to realize that you are reaching only a small following of people (well, depends on your idea of small) whom use only Twitter and not actual internet. It could be worth a try to do Twitter (and FB) and if it's too much of a commmitment just close the accounts. (I may do that if I don't see any rise in following in another month.)

Lovely post and thought. So many of us have a little business here and a small business there. In these economic times, it is the small business that struggle the most but always seems to stay on top. Sea witch

Hi Michelle~ Just found your blog. So pretty! I think small business week may have come about to get people to support and shop small businesses. I saw you have an etsy shop which I plan to explore. I just opened mine on May 9th and am working on getting my other one up and going. But I really need to figure out how to market my shop(s) and promote them other than through my blog. I am not connected to any social media like facebook, twitter, or anything else. Funny thing, I guess tonight etsy had a live workshop with a guest speaker talking about social media of all things. I missed it. I hope I can figure something out to get some sales going. Anyway, I'm your newest follower. I'll keep watching to see if you have come up with any answers. :)
Best to you~
Karen

I'm sorry to hear that. Everyone has bad days so don't you worry about it. Every problem has a solution. And about Twitter, hmmm. Twitter is a powerful business tool. You might not realize it at first, but the limited characters on microblogging can actually be better than long blogging. You can search the net for some tips on how to use Twitter for business.

Hi Michelle! I know exactly where you're coming from with Twitter, which is why decided to make mine purely image based. I couldn't imagine anyone would find the school runs interesting in a little town, so now I just use my daughter's ipod to post pictures! Try pinning some things and tweeting/facebooking them immediately. Very time consuming, but very worth itYour blog is lovely!
